Last Will and Testament of Thomas Gillespie
I, Thomas Gillespie, do make the following disposition of my estate. Viz. I will and bequeath to the Associate Synod of North American twenty shares of my Ohio and Indiana Rail Road Stock to be held or sold as said Synod may deem best and the proceeds to be especially used to or in the Horne Mission cause.
To my Daughter Cynthianna Meriman, I will and bequeath thirty-eight (38) shares of my Ohio and Indiana Rail Road stock and if she dies before her husband Dr. Meriman said Rail Road stock to descend to her children that may be then living in equal subdivisions.
To my Daughter Mariah Musgrave, I will and bequeath thirty eight shares of my Ohio and Indiana Rail Road stock, and if she dies before her husband, R. W. Musgrave, said Rail Road stock to descend to her children that may then be living in equal subdivisions.
To my son James Mitchell Gillespie I will and bequeath thiry six (36) shares of my Ohio and Indiana Rail Road stock and all my receiving apparrel.
To my son Thomas Gillespie, Jr. I will and bequeath forty (40) shares of my Ohio and Indiana Rail Road stock together with my desk, bookcase, books or papers and secretary bureau.
To Julia Gillespie, wife of Thomas Gillespie, Jr. I will and bequeath all the rest of my household furniture brought by me to Annapolis (except my square posted walnut bedstead) as a recompense for her kind care of me during my long sickness.
To my deceased daughter Harriet McCracken’s children Viz. Cynthianna Robison, Sarah Jane Smith, Anna Mariah Marshall, Henry Marshall McCracken, Jesse Mitchell McCracken and Harriet Louisa Patterson to each I will and bequeath four (4) shares of my Ohio and Indiana Rail Road stock. To my Grand-daughter Louisa Gillespie, I will and bequeath my square posted walnut bedstead together or with my bed and all my bedclothes for services waiting on my continually.
And further I hereby appoint my son Thomas Gillespie, Jr. my executor to execute this my last will and testament and I will and bequeath to him whatever part of my estate may remain after my funeral expenses are paid. And in case of the death or inability of Thomas Gillespie, Jr. to execute this my last will and testament, I appoint Willis Merriman my executor.
And further I hereby authorize the Secretary of the Ohio and Indiana Rail Road Company to make all necessary transfers of the aforesaid stocks on this company’s books in accordance with the fore going will. And further on the supposition that the remaining four shares of my Ohio and Indiana Rail Road stock shall not be sufficient to pay all the necessary expenses connected with this, my last will, it shall be paid proportionally by the first four heirs herein mentioned.
And further I will and bequeath to Thomas Gillespie Robinson the money due me by promissory notes or bills and cash in my possession amounting to about one hundred and eighty four dollars.
I do hereby revoke all former wills by me made. In testimony (??) of I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 12th day of May 1856.
